Kaiser Von Powderhorn 2 - Prof

Prof is a local artist who lives a block or two from powderhorn park. He is part of the stophouse music group but does a lot of solo shows and records.
One of the reasons I like him is because he releases his music for people to enjoy and not to make money. In the song Animal, he says, "Fuck the record sales I aint even countin', when you turn it up just make sure the shit's bouncin' "
When I first heard his music I didn't like it at all but after I heard his whole album I picked out a few songs that I really liked. A lot of his songs sound very similar and he has a very distinct style that would be good for parties.

From avclub.com,
Was satire, or Lil Wayne-style free association, the edge he was missing? Prof now appears on this entertaining mix-tape EP wearing too many chains and a bear rug over his shoulder, drink in hand, pointing a gun in the beast's mouth. He raps, "I'm the flyest of all time, pterodactyl"

As I said earlier, he doesn't care about the money so much as people enjoying his music. Proof of this is that he put his most popular album online for free download on his group's website. To preview and download the album click here

Recovery - Eminem

Personally, I really like this album and have heard good things from friends and even adults. This lead me to be very surprised at pitchfork's 2.8 out of 10 rating.
He features Pink, Rihana, Lil Wayne and Kobe who are all very well known or were very well known recently.
I have been an Eminem fan ever since I was about 12 so I downloaded his album the day it came out and probably listened to it 5 times in a row before getting sick of it. I did get sick of "going through changes, Won't back down, 25 to life and Space Bound" very fast though. those songs just don't show the Eminem I liked and was used to.
His hit single "Not Afraid" is all about his recovery and how sober he is now. He hasn't stopped talking about drinking and taking drugs but he strongly states that he doesn't do them anymore and is very much in control of his life now.

From Pitchfork,
Watching Eminem attempt to re-situate himself in the pop landscape the past year or so has been a bizarre spectacle. He roared out of his post-Encore slumber in early 2009 seeming almost puppyishly eager to rap again, spitting verses for anyone who put him in front of a mic with a desperation that suggested he was making up for lost time. Relapse, his 2009 comeback album, found him trying to scratch and claw his way back into the body of 1999-era Slim Shady, but the effect was similar to Metallica trying to revisit their thrash years with 2008's Death Magnetic: The sound was there; the fury, long gone. No matter how many starlets he tortured and killed in his lyrics, Em couldn't rewrite the intervening years and the enervating effect they've had on his spirit.

I don't agree with almost anything they say but it made me think about him a little differently so check it out

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy - Kanye West

This album was released a few weeks ago and was given a ten star rating on pitchfork.com. Pitchfork hasn't given a 10 star rating in over 30 years yet somehow Kanye's mediocre album got the honor.

here's the intro to the pitchfork's review

"Kanye West's 35-minute super-video, Runaway, peaks with a parade. Fireworks flash while red hoods march through a field. At the center of the spectacle is a huge, pale, cartoonish rendering of Michael Jackson's head. My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy's gargantuan "All of the Lights" soundtracks the procession, with Kanye pleading, "Something wrong, I hold my head/ MJ gone, our nigga dead." The tribute marks another chapter in West's ongoing obsession with the King of Pop.

West's discography contains innumerable references and allusions to Jackson. His first hit as a producer, Jay-Z's "Izzo (H.O.V.A.)", sampled the Jackson 5's "I Want You Back". For many, his first memorable lines as a rapper came during 2003's "Slow Jamz": "She got a light-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson/ Got a dark-skinned friend look like Michael Jackson." And when West's recent interview with Matt Lauer on the "Today" show went awry, he took to Twitter, writing, "I wish Michael Jackson had twitter!!!!!! Maybe Mike could have explained how the media tried to set him up!!! It's all a fucking set up!!!!" Like most everything else, Kanye may exaggerate the kinship, but it's real. And it's never more apparent than on Twisted Fantasy, a blast of surreal pop excess that few artists are capable of creating, or even willing to attempt."

Personally I would give this album a 7 at the most and only because it features so many other artists including, Kid Kudi, Jay Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj and Pusha T.

Overall It's a good album and I can honestly say that I could enjoy every song at least a little bit. But don't buy this album just because it got 10 stars. Preview it first!!
